Summary of the project

The municipalities of Rundāle, Rauna (Latvia) and Ropsha (Russia) use the potential of cultural heritage to increase attractiveness of the Programme border regions for visitors.

The project aims to bring together tourism sector players to contribute to sustainable tourism development; to create new tourism offer, which ensures attractiveness of non-mainstream tourist destinations.

The project beneficiaries anticipate that the project components implemented together will stimulate economic vitality and attractiveness of the programme territories. The project components include:

Improvement of infrastructure and purchase of equipment to set up favorable conditions for new joint tourism offer development. It includes

  • reconstruction of Mežotne Church in Rundale;
  • conservation of inner walls of the medieval Rauna Castle ruins;
  • instalment of interactive exhibitions in the reconstructed objects and their integration with mobile guides in Rundale and Rauna purchase and installation of equipment for mass cultural events in Ropsha.

 

Joint business support activities “Be smart and active” encompass business forum, focus groups, training course for tourism service providers, conference and various marketing activities. These activities will help to create a unique joint cross-border tourism product –“Time travel”.

“Time travel” is a set of cultural tourism pilot and promotional events based on historical re-enactments. It consists of several elements:

  • development of mobile guides for tourist objects with augmented reality elements;
  • organization of 4 historical re-enactment mass events, representing three different historical periods: the 9th – 13th century festival in Mežotne Hillfort, the 14th – 16th century Medieval Days in Rauna, 20th century and Culinary heritage Festival in Ropsha.

Project budget:

  • Total budget - 649 814,00 EUR
  • Programme co-financing - 584 832,60 EUR
