ECDay 2019 video competition highlights

The spring is about to burst in all the participating regions of Latvia-Russia CBC Programme. Despite the COVID-19 challenging times, it inspires the Programmes team to preplan the major events of 2020 and to think of alternative ways to celebrate the important dates.

One of this year’s highlights is the annual European Cooperation Day campaign, which should take place around September 2020 and is dedicated to the Interreg30 anniversary. Although we find ourselves in the situation of social distancing, we can still fill up our ECDay 2020 mood boards and reflect on the vibrant events of 2019.

Among the most memorable initiatives of the ECDay 2019 was the amateur video competition “EUROPE IS YOU” named after the campaign’s slogan. The aim was to capture the essence of the European spirit through a short video that answered the question “Why EUROPE IS YOU?” and ‘spoke’ both to stakeholders and general public. The competition started as early as May 2019 and spanned till the end of June 2019.

The video, which has become an absolute winner of our Programme’s “EUROPE IS YOU” competition, is dedicated to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) the citizens share across Europe including climate action, decent work and economic growth, partnerships for the goals, and others.

In October 2019, the author of the winning video Kamil, 13-year-old student from St Petersburg, was awarded a special prize during the management game for young people “Game of Goals” dedicated to the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.

We hope that the video will serve a good source of inspiration to Latvia-Russia CBC Programme projects to consider possibilities and ways to join the ECDay celebrations this year!

In the meanwhile, we invite all the projects to follow the Programme updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
