Summary of the project

The European Commission has suspended the cooperation with the Russian Federation within this Programme and participation of Russian beneficiaries in project implementation is suspended as well.

“Cross-border roads” project (Improvement of the border crossing approach road Lavry – BCP “Brunishevo”) continues efforts on improving border crossing experiences of those travelling through the border between Latvia and Russia. During the previous programme period, the border crossing facilities on Russian side of the border crossing point Brunishevo – Pededze have been improved. However, the desired effect has not been fully reached due to the lack of good connectivity between the key roads and the border crossing point.

In this project, three partners (Committee for economic development and investment policy and Committee for transport and road administration – both from Pskov region, together with State JSC “State Real Estate” from Latvia) will work as follows:

  • improve 4.224 km of access road to the border crossing point on Russian side (BCP Brunishevo) by arranging hard surface road;
  • enhance information provision to those crossing the border via a targeted info campaign and specially designed customer corners;
  • arrange experience exchange between customs workers to improve cooperation during controlling procedures.

“Cross-border roads” project aims to benefit all varieties of persons crossing the border – from individual travellers and sole proprietors to entrepreneurs and customs authorities covering the immediate neighbourhood and vast areas of cooperating countries in the long run.

Although this is a single-country project with most investments going to only one place, the results will have a sustainable impact on both sides of the border supported by a joint information campaign along the border line.
