Summary of the project

The European Commission has suspended the cooperation with the Russian Federation within this Programme and participation of Russian beneficiaries in project implementation is suspended as well.

The project will create and promote the cross-border tourist route “Following the engineering ideas in Latvia and Russia”. It will be dedicated to work and life of famous engineers of the 19th century, including S.Kerbedz and P.Bure, who lived and worked in the border area of Latvia and Russia.

The project results will become the ground for development of cultural, science and historical links in the border area and, importantly, for economic development of the Rezekne, Luga and Plyussa municipalities. More specifically, they will help increase the tourist flow in municipalities and contribute to favorable environment for local small businesses.

The infrastructure component foresees creation of

• the centre for engineering ideas in Rezekne Municipality with the exhibition in Luznava Manor;
• the open-air exhibition enhanced by the elements of quest in Luga Municipality; and
• the engineering square in Plyussa Municipality.

The steps for creation of the tourist route are:

• making historical research about engineers and their life and work (major part of research will be made in the archives of Russia);
• revision and tuning of the route (during the two trips from Luga to Rezekne and vice versa);
• design of the tourist route map; dissemination and promotion of the route and opportunities to use its infrastructure among tourist information centres, travel agencies, tourists, small businesses and other stakeholders;
• promotion of the route by organizing several press-tours for the representatives of tour operators, mass media and other stakeholders.
