Summary of the project
The European Commission has suspended the cooperation with the Russian Federation within this Programme and participation of Russian beneficiaries in project implementation is suspended as well.
The main goal of the project “Green Towers” is to introduce the innovative clean technologies into urban and nature environment, and to contribute to effective management of protected areas and parks, tourism development and leisure opportunities for visitors and locals.
The project foresees development of green infrastructure – construction of the viewing towers and the green pavilion using smart renewable energy sources, including
- equipped viewing towers and improved surrounding territory in Rujiena, Cesis (Latvia) and Gdov (Russia);
- green pavilion with improved surrounding territory in Kingisepp (Russia);
- demo centers and “Green class” for students and visitors in Rujiena, Cesis, Gdov and Kingisepp.
This infrastructure will increase the quality of recreation facilities for locals and visitors, allowing for bird watching, small culture and eco events and games, sports and leisure.
The project draws attention of policymakers and businesses to climate policy processes and promotes ‘communities of interest’ to improve continuous networking and experience sharing in green technologies and environmental management between the experts. For this purpose the project will carry out research work, including researches on
- project technical, geographical and meteorological aspects;
- project impact on climate change and environmental protection and nature protection; and
- assessment of project results.
In order to raise public awareness the project will create Internet data platform www.exploregreentowers.eu to demonstrate the use of technologies, accumulate archives, and to set up the webcam nature watching.
The project will organize/participate in:
- technical seminars – for improving of expertise and experience exchange among the project beneficiaries in operating the project sites (Rujiena, Cesis, Kingisepp, Gdov);
- final conference – to raise public awareness of stakeholders and wider audience in clean technologies and environmental management;
